Hitler's Book

Today, in CORE 10 Philosophy, we talked about different fallacies, and how they were used in Hitler's book. One fallacy we discussed was how Hitler compared us to animals. He states that animals are to only breed with there own kind, not any other. He is using that as a metaphor for us. He is basically saying that Chinese can only breed with other Chinese, and blacks can only breed with other blacks, etc....The fallacy he is using here is False Analogy. Which is an analogy is descriptive, but does not offer proof of a connection between the two things being compared. He is using animals representing humans, but shows no connections what so ever as to what connections we have to them. There is no evidence backing his statement up. That is why Hitler sucks. Okay thats the end of my blog for today, Bye!

Evolution Vs. Creationism

So, in Philosophy on Friday, we read about the study of Creationism and its differences with Evolution. Creationism states that we could not have evolved from anything because the human body is to complex to have evolved from monkeys or any other organism, therefore we are created by God himself. Evolution states that our bodies use natural selection in order to adapt to our environment. In my opinion, i am more for Evolution because they have some scientific proof backing it up, even if its just a bunch of theories. So, this I guess im done for today. Bye.

UM about todays debate

So today we debated about two things, 1. Because we have a black president, we do not need to take affirmative action? and 2. Even though we have a black president, we still need to take affirmative action? Well i strongly believe that even though we have a black president, we still need to take affirmative action in not just getting minorities into college, but just recognizing the potential of every single person,-black, asian, latino, white, etc....I think that having a African American president opens new doors for minorities all together. Having a African American president is a big improvement in the fight against racism, but we can't dismiss the fact that racism is gone, because it will never be. I barely have an idea of what the questions really wanted, but this is my best shot....

Deductive Statements

Today we learned about Deductive Logic. The three forms that we learned about were Syllogism, Modus Ponens, and Modus Tollens. These three are different in many ways. First, syllogism was founded by Aristotle. He explains a general term, into a specific using basic math as a guideline. A=B, B=C, therefore A=C. An example of this was All (B)humans are (A)mortals. (C)Socrates is a (B)human. (C)Socrates is (A)mortal. We see that (B)humans is reoccurring through the first two lines. Second, Modus Ponens is using the If P, then Q-P therefore Q. An easier way of looking at this is-If I (P)swim then i am (Q)athletic. I (P)swim, therefore i am (Q)athletic. This is very similar to the Third form mentioned earlier, Modus Tollens. Modus Tollens is basically the contrapositive of the original statement. Modus Tollens states that, If P then Q-Not Q, therefore not P. An example of this would be, If I live in (P)Van nuys, I live in (Q)California-If I dont live in (Q)California, therefore I dont live in Van Nuys. Both Modus Tollens and Modus Ponens have the same original statement, but differ in the follow up statement.
